A couple of years ago I purchased 5 bushes. Last year the japanese beetles stripped all of them. This year I'd like to cover them with some sort of netting. It's my understanding that the bees need to pollinate the bushes, so when do I cover them and still allow time for pollination? Thanks for any help.
covering blueberry bushes
I'm in NC but my blueberries just bloomed -early April- and the J beetles never are here until Summer, probably June. I think that if you are alert, you will see just a few J beetles one day and then a "swarm" in a couple of days. If that's not how MA Japanese beetles work, someone please tell Audrey.
I agree. The J-beetles come and eat all of my mother's sea roses about blooming time (June). So if the blueberries bloom in the spring, you can probably just wait untill after the blossoms are done and then cover them.
