Four Winters ago I was in the South of France for Christmas. Duting the visit I collected some palm seed in Montpellier. A couple of months later I started the seed and it came up like grass... some of the seedlings I stuck in my garden and now as the snow melts away 3 Winters later I see that they are still alive. They have not grown very much, within a few weeks they will be shaded by other plants. Are palm seedlings much hardier than the mature trees? We do get plenty of -30C weather. I don't know what that is in Farenheit, but I know that -40 is the same for both. Robb.
Outdoor palm seedlings in Toronto Canada
No, the seedlings wouldn't be hardier than the full grown plants, if anything young plants are usually more easily damaged by frost & cold. Do you know what kind of palm it was? There are a couple that are hardier, and if you've got them in a somewhat protected location they might survive.
Wow, Palm Trees in Toronto! Guess that's why it's called "The Banana Belt" lol!
