Second botanical garden in 2 weeks... Im lovin' it!
Okay... so they had a plant sale at FIT today but I was unable to buy anything simply because I was broke. So, I went and checked out the botanical garden!
The first picture is a beautiful Foxtail palm.
Here is a gingerbread palm (Hyphaene). This is interesting because this species has a tendency to branch.
Next is a Chocho Palm (Astrocaryum mexicannum).
Here is a nice Triangle palm (Dypsis decaryi).
An impressive Bismarck palm (Bismarckia nobilis). I like how the leaves hang past the 90 degree angle to the trunk.
Another smaller Bismarck.
Here are some more Gingerbread palms.
A beautiful Ribbon palm (Livistona decipiens).
A Hurricane palm (Dictyosperma album var. rubrum).
Here is a maybe mystery palm. It looks like a Teddy Bear palm (Dypsis leptocheilos) because of the fuzz on the trunk but Im not sure.
Not a great picture, but here is a HUGE Travelers palm (Ravenala madagascariensis). It had to be at least 30 feet tall with about 10 trunks!
An Ivory Cane Palm (Pinanga coronata).
A Miraguama Palm (Coccothrinax miraguamma).
Here is a nice Areca Palm (Dypsis lutescens).
An interesting Chinese Fan palm (Livistona chinensis). The tree fell and continued to grow!
A Veitchia arecina... i think!
A plump Bottle Palm (Hyophorbe lagenicaulis).
Some species of Caryota... maxima or urens, most likely!
Okay, mystery palm number 2... I have no clue where to start and try to identify this palm!
Not familiar with cycads, so can anyone help with this one?
Mystery palm number 3... It has really lacy leaves!
I think this is a Motacu palm (Attalea speciosa). It is a really large palm. The leaves were probably about 15 feet in length.
And finally, a majestic Majesty palm (Ravenea rivularis).

Not a close enough photo to the large palm for me to guess well, but looks like an African oil palm. Cycad is a Cycas species, but I could not come any closer than that. Third one is some wispy looking Dypsis... again, a total guess and no idea what species it could be.
Foxtail, thanks for the memories !!!! I attended FIT in the 70's and at one point worked as an assistant to the head gardener (Jungle Jim). We didn't call it the Botanical Garden, it was always "The Jungle". I remember especially the big travelers palm and there was a beautiful swiss cheese plant nearby.
