Suffering plants

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Just an update!! We have had so much rain in such a short time and the newly planted hydrangea macrophylla are not doing so well. These are the cuttings I took last year. The leaves are turning a sort of red colour. However, the larger shrub, the lacecap, seems to be in a better condition. It seems that the bigger the plant, the better it has stood up to the weather. Well, I am putting this down to wet weather but I'm wondering if the soil has anything to do with it or the high temps of three weeks' ago. Next year's buds are coming through so that's a relief as I had promised one of these to Dave. Thoughts anyone?
