Dracocephalum moldavica 'Blue Dragon' any one grow this?

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Inspired by Hart, I've been seed hunting this morning, and I bumped into this plant that, while it apparently likes cool weather (does that rule us out?), likes DRY SHADE (shouting now). Seeds are available. http://www.hardyplants.com/catalog/c323.html. It is really charming: Ihttp://www.lazyssfarm.com/Plants/Perennials/D_files/D_Images/dracocephalum_ruyschianum_blue_dragon.htm

Isn't it sweet? In plant files, Bluespiral had some comments about germination, but didn't say how it did as a garden plant.

I had never heard of it before. Have any of you grown it? It is worth a try?

I've been looking at that plant for a couple of years now, pondering whether I should try some from seeds. The blue is drop dead gorgeous and it's a primary Garden Law that you can never have too much blue. LOL

I agree. Seeds are available. I'll get some and send you some, along with some leo seeds -- there will be far more seeds in the packets than I can use. Then we can let everyone know how they do!

Thanks, Happy. Just checked this plant on robsplants.com and he says it's very easy, makes nice sized plants by late spring but doesn't self sow reliably. The comments on the plants are all from his garden so YMMV.

He grows a perennial variety too.

Ouch -- I thought Blue Dragon was perennial. I don't mess with annuals for the most part . . . .

Here's seeds for the perennial varieties:

T's Flowers has this listed as a perennial. Maybe check with her and see if it has come back in her garden. Rob could just be in a colder zone. It is a hardy annual.
