Sooo sorry on the frost damage. Spring has sprung in your zone, no doubt! Congrats. Us "northerners" like myself still have a few more weeks to go. lol.

Diehard I think something is wrong with that palm. My neighbor has a few of those and they have no frost damage. I forget the name but those palms don't like water, hope it's not in a spot where water collects.

I created a new thread for March in case anyone is interested in shooting over there :o)

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Thank you Red, this was getting really long, even with DSL.

Diehrd, was that palm newly planted? If it was not really well established it would have been more susceptible to the cold.

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

well, it was planted last feb, and moved last march, but now the roots should be ok, shouldn't they? we have a smaller one, and it had a thin canopy of pine needles to protect it and it hardly showed any damage

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

You're right, it should have been established. That was just such a freaky cold spell we had, I have noticed a lot of plants that should have been hardy had browned leaves while some tropicals fared fine. Ma Nature was just doing a number on us.

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

you know whats funny....some ligustrum got browned leaves. so did the oleander inder the pine tree, while the ones completely exposed were fine

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

Diehrd: My little filifera looks like your Washi. It's 2 years old. Just too many freezing nights in a row, I think. :(

well, i guess i'm gonna get a W. filifera too just to see how it does!

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

Oh! I mean my w filifera looks just as frost bitten as yours!!. One green frond. The rest brown......
On the other hand, my Eur. Fan Palm/Chaem. Humilis, if memory is working, ....it looks like it never saw a cold moment.
