Seed Catalogs

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

I haven't even turned on my growlights yet this year....a first. I usually bring in a zillion geraniums and make cuttings, coleus, sp vine and a bunch of others. This year, I put the pots of geraniums in unheated rooms upstairs (by windows) and they are doing great.

My sp vine/coleus cuttings are still in water on a windowsill and they too are doing great. I was fretting about leaving the lights on 16 hrs and the elect. bill. I will turn them on once I do my seed starting. Several things I didn't even do cuttings of....I'll just buy some new (licorice vine for one)

hey sarv do you like your grow lights i was thinking about getting on this year. i would kinda like to start some seeds inside and save a little bit of money. and it would be a good hobby. has anyone had good luck with them? i recieve the van broughen (sp) catalouge the other day. any one have comments abput them i dont think ive ever ordered from them. my pile is really growing but i enjoy looking. some days all we get in the mail is seed and garden cats... my husband is jealous. he wants fishing books. I love my grow lights. I have many of them and they work slick. I just got cheapo lights from Home Depot or one of the big box stores...just shop lights. Mine can be raised and lowered too which makes things easier. I am SO ready to start seeds!!

Hey you guys
I was following this forum and I noticed
that germinator was removed. whats up with that?

anyone have any ideas?

In response to catalog orders, I have ordered
from U.K. T& M, expensive, but they have
seeds of trees and plants I cannot get anywhere else.

Wayside did me wrong. DH lou ordered 5 roses
for me one Mothers Day, and all of them died and
they refused to make good on that order. I feel like
ordering a million dollars worth of stuff and then
canceling it. ha ha ha

snowing again! brrrr
gotta go poke the woodstove...Hey, Mr. Woodstove!
Turn up the pipes!".

Hello Brenda!
I have not been here for a week! But you were talking about having limited space and cost of growing. I have my plants on a rack in the room I use the most. The florescent lights are cheaper
than my incandescents and the light from growing provides me lots of light!! My room sadly is
only 62 degrees and so I CAN only overwinter stuff here and grow early cold crops well. But for seedlings i luckily have a boiler and stone walls in my 140 year old basement. It is warmer down
there than up here!! You can grow a flat of "stuff" anywhere and I hope you do!1 It is wonderful seeing little green leaves poking up out of the soil!!!

Plainwell, MI(Zone 5b)

hey everyone are you all keeping track of how many garden catalouges you got this year??? so far ive recieved 26. i am amazed. and really i dont think im going to order from one of them... ive ordered from the co-ops and eflowers.com and the viola valley site today i recieved the brecks catalouge i may order freom there ive never had a problem with any thing from there. but will not order from michigan bubs, or interstate? is that the name? ive always like wayside, jackson-perkins, and a couple others i think you save money and its funner going to the greenhouses and looking around. then you dont have to settle with what comes in the box. i was just wondering if anyone else kept there catalouges this year to count how many they recieved? i probably will look again then get rid of them.... have a great day, Ronna

Ok Ladies....and gentlemen.....got another catalog today, and who is Michigan Bulb think they are fooling....I can smell that bogus company a mile away. The name they are using now is called Gardeners Choice. They are in Hartford, MI. Just thought I would give you folks a heads up. They are trying to lour you with an "I quote" "AMAZING $100,000 GIVEAWAY.

Plainwell, MI(Zone 5b)

wow hlssunny!!! that would be great plainwell is in allegan county around 10 miles north (as the crow flies) from kalamazoo. do you know where that is? i would be willing to send an envelope or something would that work??? thanks again Ronna

Muskegon, MI(Zone 5a)

Ronna
It will have to wait until the snow is gone of course. I'd be lucky to get to the spot they're planted in right now. I believe I'll be in or near Kzoo near the end of March. Maybe we can work something out then. Liriope is evergreen so if I can get in a shovel I might be able to dig them out and meet you some where. I put a note on my calendar. If I forget, don't hesitate to remind me. Seriously! Helen

Plainwell, MI(Zone 5b)

oh helen thanks i sent you a mail...
