pygmy palm berries

Katy, TX

Has anyone collected and tried to germinate the berries from a pygmy palm? I am a bit niave....the berries appeared on one 'trunk' of our pygmy palm which has only been in situ for 4 months....we think the plant is beautiful and so thought we might plant the berries to see what happens.......but I haven't been able to find ANY info about the berries or germination on the web....thankz for your help!

I just planted some pygmy date palm seeds a few weeks ago and they are now germinating in the pot. I will take them out and put them in seperate pots soon. It took the seeds about 2 months to germinate. There really interesting palms and I can't wait until they get better! Good luck.

First, you have to take off the outer layers until you just have the seed. Then put the seeds in a pot with rich potting soil. I put my pots in shade so that may help. And all you have to do after that is wait. -Tyler
