also, is winter sowing based on what we are growing? and/or our zone?
right now the only thing i have on my list is petunias...(i know that sounds ridiculous...and i need to find others...but that is my list right now)
So is it time to start winter sowing...or is it too early
As a general rule, plants that need cold stratification do better WS... annuals like petunias can be winter sown, but they don't have to be stratified, so people seem to sow them later. The traditional date for WS is the winter solstice, when the days actually start getting longer (more daylight, anyway), usually Dec. 21st or so. I don't think I started most seeds 'til the first week of February and it worked out fine.
I have a bunch of shrub seeds I'll probably start this fall (if I remember, etc.). They probably need more cold stratification than most perennials do.
okie dokie...thank you:)
In case you haven't seen it, this site is great, everything about WS:
http://www.wintersown.org/
There are lists for each different hardiness zone and what seeds germinated
oh cool....(i think)(grin); my brain starts drifting when written material is too much for it....not sure if it is attention deficit something ....but some written materials make me zone out and b4 you know it i give up....i hope i can get thru it.....
Well here you go, links to just the zone 7 lists, so you can look up only plants you're interested in
