Hi Friends,
I just thought of a couple of plants that I am looking for, to buy If I have too.
Zebra Plant x 2
Tradascantia "Rolio" (Purple)
Celosia argentea var. Plumosa x 2

A Friend,

Debi

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Unfortunately I don't have either .
But there are quite a few Ozzies active on this site now .
My main plants are Track Jazz , Cannas , Hippies & Gingers .

Coffs Harbour, Australia

Hi Debi, I think your pregnant onion is a sea onion, Urginea maritima. I saw it in the botanical gardens at Mt cootha. I had lots of them but have had to put them places where the conditions aren't so codusive to their growth, because given the right ammount of water e.t.c, they go like crazy!

I have about 20 Antigonon leptopus seeds on offer for free. They were collected about 8 weeks ago from my neighbours house. I am going to try a few, but don't need all of them. D mail me if you're interested

I'd like to encourage people to use the trading facilities on the site as well as posting here, the Trading lists are very good and useful. As a start try checking out my trade items here: http://davesgarden.com/community/trading/list.php?list=have&member=kaelkitty and if you need any extra help please d-mail me. One useful tip for starting is to use the Plant Files. Search for the plant you have, or the one you want, when you find it scroll down and click on "Add this plant to your trade list" and take it from there, it's pretty easy. KK.

You Pair,
Very funny reading! lol
I am an "Aussie", Australian. We do spell it Aussie...................................,

Adelaide, Australia(Zone 10a)

This is a great idea!!! I hope to be able to add to the swap. I hope it is kept informal. I'm happy to give seeds away but can't guarantee their viability. I tend to collect them from any plant I'm interested in from neighbors, etc. and just hope for the best!

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

I will have about 400 Hippeastrums for trading in late October .
So put your orders in now .
This was last years Dig .

I am chasing some native scutellarias (skullcaps), I have tons off seeds off various salvias and have all types off lamiaceae seeds, that is my main growing area, lamiaceae, I have just started collecting scented geraniums as well, so far have the peppermint ginger and coconut scented ginger, have a lot off unusual stuff here. I am also chasing various lobelia species, I have salvia plants to swap or impatiens sodenii plants.

I am also chasing any unusual lamiaceae seeds:)

I am rambling, because I am in a hurry and have to go out, yikes, where has the day gone;)

Great Idea.

I have had no trouble sending seeds overseas or receiving seeds as long as they are on the icon list.
http://www.aqis.gov.au/icon32/asp/ex_querycontent.asp

What is this about, I have just mailed a whole lot off seeds this week out to Japan,Canada, U.S. and the U.K.

Enquiring minds need to know:)

Annette

Robertstown, Australia(Zone 10a)

Hi Annette,
I seem to have permanent bad luck with the ICON list
Everything I want, which I can't get locally, always comes up with -

"Condition C6066

This commodity is prohibited entry into Australia because insufficient information is available on its risk status. Importers are to be advised that the consignment must be re-exported or destroyed.

Permit applications to import the goods may be forwarded prior to importation to the Animal and Plant Programs Branch in Canberra, for consideration along with a pest risk analysis assessment."

So, speaking from my experience I have just about given up trying! LOL, Kaelkitty.

Townsville, Australia(Zone 10a)

You always check the commodity first and see what is allowed in, you know that I have a lot off salvias and as long as they are on the 'list', than it is no problems, I always check icon first it is my seed bible.

Annette

Robertstown, Australia(Zone 10a)

Hi Annette,
I suspect my main problem is that I am mostly looking at cacti and succulents, and they can get a bit iffy, since the great Opuntia takeover! last century. Where did you find the "Allowed List" on the icon site? All I get is the search function, and it gets really old entering name after name from an overseas plant list only to get "prohibited entry" time after time! Usually by the time I get a response back from ..forwarded prior to importation to the Animal and Plant Programs Branch in Canberra, for consideration.. the O/S supplier has run out of seeds! or they say no anyway!

TTFN, Jacq.

Townsville, Australia(Zone 10a)

Hi There,

Where it says commodity put in the genera, like I would put in salvias, than when the page loads up click on the one that comes up in my case salvia ssp. It will list every allowed species off that genera allowed in, it takes seconds.Once you do that you will know where you stand, so list the succulent name than click the subspecies, scroll down and all is revealed.

I hope that this helps:)

Annette68 - possible to post a photo of coconut geranium?? I bought what was labeled that but it really doesn't smell like coconut to me and if it is different, I may take you up on the offer. I have started planted salvias but no seed or cutting production yet. I'm in love with my Salvia semiatrata!! I also have Geranium maderense (biggest of the species, so I've been told). When it decides to set seed, I'm happy enough to send them along. k

Adelaide, Australia(Zone 10a)

Annette68 - I saw that you have Salvia dorisiana as well. Is it really peach scented? I went to the salvia specialist website to read more about it and it suggests that it is grapefruit scented!! Are there different cultivars or is the scent a bit ambiguous?? Just wondering, it's beautiful in any case!! Don't know if it would handle our winter though. k

Townsville, Australia(Zone 10a)

Hi K,

The foliage smells like fruit. It is also known as fruitscented sage, Divine, sometimes I just go and rub the leaves and smell,it is native to the honduras, it doesnt like frost.I have also got a salvia gravida, a new one and the foliage smells like perfume, this is a new one and still learning what conditions it likes, huge flowers as well:)

Hey Ginger where did you go?
hi everyone ....love to support this but don't know how or even if I am clever enough....how does it work...I have lots of seeds ...I don't mind sharing ...I don't really have to have anything in return ...I think I would feel guilty if I swapped something and the party at the other end was not happy ...I have looked at some of the posts over in the other forums and some folk have been upset because of stuff like that...does anyone have advise to any of us who would love to do this but are a bit nervous ? thankyou :)
Brical ....where are you?

Coffs Harbour, Australia

Well, anything I offer will be for free, and it's up to you to get any joy from it. I will supply it with as much information as i can, but Daves Garden plant files usually have everything you will need! So Antigonon letopus anyone?

North Ipswich, Qld, Australia

weed_woman, I would appreciate a couple if you have any spare as I am just starting to get a collection of plants, all sorts. I do not even know what your plants are, but I would love them like my other one's.

Thanks,

Debi

Adelaide, Australia(Zone 10a)

I had the same concerns as chrissy100 about swapping. If we could all agree that we mean the best then that would have to be enough. Like weedwoman said, it's free. Up to the recipient to decide what to do with their newly acquired seeds/cuttings. I have lots of different seeds and have no idea if they are viable or not. More than happy to share them with no dramas. We're a small group down here so should be able to keep it simple and friendly if only to support each other! Ok, that's my two cents worth. I'll be going through my seed packets soon and make a list.

weedwoman, do you think the antigonon letopus would grow in Adelaide?? I haven't heard of it before but it sounds interesting.

annette68, your S. gravida sounds wonderful!! Wonder if that would do well here?? I have 'Tequila' growing in p.shade and it's going crazy! My cocount geranium (which smells more like grapefruit) didn't blink at the few light frost nights we had in July.

Happy gardening everyone!!

Good one.... everyone we can do this ...hey Ginger !...come on sweetie you started this off...come back we are waiting for you...we newbys at this kinda stuff need some fairy godmother to tell us what to do.......:)
Hey everyone have you heard the awful news about our horses...we are in lockdown already(Luddenham) every horse in NSW and possibly Australia is forbidden to move from the property....horse flu...some exotic disease is racing through the race horses( excuse the pun)...this has severe repercussions for a lot of people
people from where I live ....near an equestrian ground are ringing up in tears...the News says even the Melbourne cup will be cancelled.....all horse races in Australia are cancelled Yikes!

Coffs Harbour, Australia

Hi everyone, Hi Khopton. Antigonon (links of love, coral vine) is in my gardening book as needing warm to hot, moist coastal to tropical climates, so is probably not suited to Adelaide, but your'e welcome to try anyway. If you're interested just Dmail me your postal address and I'll put a couple in an envelope for you.
The scare with the horse flu is a new one. 1st bird flu, then foot'n'mouth, then mad cows, meningitis, killer flu and now this. Maybe its terrorism in a new form. Biological warfare and all that! Do I sound parranoid?

Adelaide, Australia(Zone 10a)

Yeah, you kinda sound a wee bit paranoid!! I don't think the flu is deadly, is it?? I mean, that has to be the bright point. The animals aren't going away. Just lots of people losing money. Scary stuff and very sad.

As for the swapping; looks like we are capable of being casual about the whole thing which is the only way to go. My only organizational suggestion would be that we dedicate a thread to just the subject of swaps and not get off subject too much. Yes??

weedwoman - I'll pass on the Antigonon due to it's love of water/tropics. SA just restricted us even more this month. Now we can't use drippers! ABC gardening radio show this morning really raked SA water rep over the coals and trying to understand why we can dump as many buckets of water (from the tap) onto our gardens but can't use the much more efficient method of dripper systems. Unbelievable. What a mess. Pray for rain to hit us soon!!

For the benefit of those of you who do not read ALL of the posts in this Forum .
I have already stated Terry ( Administrator ) has made us a offer .
So I will repeat it here a second time .

Quoting:

I've been in touch with Terry ( admin )
Our Plant trading is now a 'STICKY'
Which means it will always stay at the top .
She also said
Quoted:
It's "stickied" - I hope it turns into a lot of trading for the
Australian members. If there's enough interest down the road, we can
set up a trading forum just for Australian members.

So that sounds good .
NOW lets every one support the trading Thread .

If someone wants to get really serious about swapping ?
Start a new thread stating that 'serious posts only' allowed here .
I wish you luck .
My suggestion is we show Terry how serious we are and we will get our
( trading forum just for Australian members ) .

Will you start it please Ginger?

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Thank you chrissy100 for YOUR support .
But I've already started this one .
And I'm very happy with it's progress .

These are My Tropicannas .
And I started off with only one .
When I dig them up at Xmas there will be a lot for trading .
So keep an eye on this space .

Thumbnail by ginger749

Ok then then this is it ...sorry I am a dill .......that's great and the cannas are lovely. :)
