Cut too many branches!

Hi everyone. I am desperately seeking advice. Here is my problem. My neighbours were complaining that some trees in my backyard were interfering with their apple trees. Being a good neighbour, I hired a tree specialist who did the job while I was at work. When I returned, I quickly observed that he had OVERDONE the job and cut way too many branches to the point where I have lost my shade and the trees look horrible. I fear I may have lost them for good. These are very mature trees (not yet sure of the type! SORRY!)

Any advice or words of comfort.

I would have been so angry if one of my trees had been treated so harshly. He really only had to remove that part of the tree that was growing over your neighbour's garden. It would help if we know what sort of tree you have. If more than a third of the tree has been removed, I'm sorry to say it might go into shock and you may eventually lose it. I hate to be the bearer of this news and I could be wrong. Some trees are pollarded each year and they spring back and grow even more vigorously - it depends what you have. Could you post a picture? Don't lose heart!

I would be furious. I would have that tree specialist buying me some new good sized trees and planting them or I would have him in court. There was no reason for him to butcher your trees. Apparently he is in the business for the money only not because he cares about the life of these living things.

Beware of tree specialists. I've seen so many trees given this type of treatment. My mother-in-law had several trees trimed by 2 different people. They both lopped off all the branches. All but one tree did manage to survive. They were maples, several kinds, probably Norway, Silver, and Red. I don't know now, years later which ones. The one that died was a silver maple. I've read that the branches that grow back are weaker than the ones that were cut off. I'm not sure how true this is.
