Interesting side-note on ponds: my pond drains into the Stono River(salty/brackish) on overflow (a rare occurrence lately!), but is usually dry. To make a long story short, we pulled a huge 3 ft. dead eel out of the pond yesterday. No idea how it got there, unless it came in through the drainage pipe. Suspect it found it's way to the pond to spawn in fresh water, as they are wont to do. But it's a good 500 ft. trek from the Stono to my pond---all underground, with mostly dry spots due to the sparse rainfall. Mama Nature continues to amaze me...
