when all of a sudden they were joined by a third house wren! This one joined in on the scolding and I noticed it was smaller and "pouffier" than the first two. So I'm wondering if this might be one of their offspring from earlier in the spring!

So I decided to leave them alone for a while and moved to stake out the box in the front yard. This pair is just building their nest. They don't seem as wary of people and other goings on. The box is right in front of the window and a few feet from a very busy feeder area. The female (I think) didn't hesitate to fly to the box and go inside.

Her mate meanwhile posted himself on the roof and acted as a lookout.

I guess she took so long in there he decided to start yelling in the entry for her to hurry up

Lily, incredible photos - and such a story to go along with them!! That younger, pouffier, wren is adorable!

Let me join with some pictures from the marshes that I took today.
A marsh wren, you can hear them but not too often do they come out in the open.

Don't know the name of this one but it is a fast marsh walker.

Spotted in the woods that surround the marsh area, almost missed that barred owl while walking there.

What a beautiful Marsh Wren photo! You can see every feather! Is that a cat tail that it is using for nesting material?

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Panamon - outstanding photos - a real treat!

Melbourne, FL

Not much happening here right now. The Woodpeckers had some babies and here is one of them.

Thanks for the ID Resin

Poor little woodpecker, still a little bald there :). Nice shot Gardenpom

lilyfnatn, yep it's Cat tail 'building material' ;)

What great pictures everyone. We had a sad thing over the weekend. We have a couple nesting orioles here and we found on a stump at the entrance to our woods, a pile of yellow feathers and a head. One of our female orioles must have been food to one of the hawks. So sad. Part of nature.
We did see many mama ducks and their little ducklings, an ospry fishing, and a couple eagles over the weekend. (probably looking for those ducklings)

Kingsport, TN(Zone 6b)

Nice catch gardenpom! It must be fun to have young woodpeckers around to watch.

Oh that is sad cparts. But you are right, that is nature. This season of nesting and baby bird visits is the mst exciting and nerve wracking at the same time.

Here is a young squirrel that visited the window sill yesterday. I hadn't seen this one before. His has such big "Bambi eyes" .

Birds are so extrordanairy to me. I absolutley love Robins. The young one on the Bird bath is the best smile for me.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think this is a Brown Thrasher in my shrubbery. I used to see them all the time when I live beachside, but this is the first time here.

It looks a lot like one to me with one exception - the ones I have here have a very distinctive yellowy brown iris color. I wonder if it could be a different kind of thrasher or some kind of thrush.

I love your shore bird pictures Pell! I hope you are having a wonderful time!

Yep, spot on.

Like many ground-feeding and nesting birds, they are at high risk from cats - if you have a high cat population locally, that could explain the shortage of them.

Thanks, Lilyfantn and Resin. I wondered if it was a Thrush also, but they are not in this area at this time of year. Of course, I'm used to seeing the Brown Thrashers on the ground, searching for food, not up in the shrubbery. I have a six-foot wire fence around my yard, and only one cat out back with any possibility of catching a bird....in the 5% of the time she is not sleeping!

Lilyfantn and Panamon - those are super wren shots!!

Wonderful photos everyone!

Here's a House Wren from my backyard, a little worried that I was too close to the nest.

(corrected to House Wren instead of Carolina Wren - thanks Resin!)
