In my neck of the woods (Far West Texas), they say we should plant strawberries only in the Fall, so the plants can get some good growth before Spring, since the summers are too hot. I can't seem to find any companies that sell strawberries in the Fall. Anyone have any ideas?
Fall strawberry planting
I think you can get plenty of strawberries in the fall if you watch the trading forums. I usually have a lot of runners that form over the summer and no place to put them in the fall. Send me a dmail as a reminder and I will let you know when I have plants.
Greenwood Nursery in Tennessee sells them in the fall. In fact, there are several mail order companies that do, but they tend to sell out quickly. You might check with Miller Nurseries (Canandaigua, NY). I've gotten excellent plants in the fall from Greenwood. I've gotten great plants from Miller in the spring, but they may very well sell in the fall, too.
