Anyone know anything about these? They are growing up the trees in my back wood lot. Loads of small fruit have started. Do you think they will mature? What kind are they apt to be? Edible?
Thanks in advance.

Wild grape vine.....
Red; Wild grapes are usually edible. The wild fox grapes (Vitis labrusca) can get fairly large and while it is not the flavorful grape in the world, is perfectly edible, I have eaten a few gallons in my time. You probably don't have these in Kentucky , but the wild southern fox grape (muscadine) Vitis rotundifolia, In virginia we also had the small Vitis aestivalis and the late ripening extra small Vitis cordifolia. We called those coon grapes. They can be pretty sour, but they are edible.

All the wild grapevines I find around here have these light blue grapes on them which are inedible. I never figured out what the species is.

I've been researching wild grapes some because they're all over the woods at my place. It seems that most people make them into jam or jelly since they're so tart sometimes mixing them with other berries. I think we're going to try it this year because they seem to be one of the few plants unaffected by the drought down here. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Thanks everyone!
mine never mature into something edible (though my wife has been known to cook with the leaves from time to time).
I'd love it if my wild grapes produced something (as I have now killed 2 grape vines, well choked them out with kiwi and clematis and have given up on growing them again).
