Julianna,

I am very happy to see Shaker's Prayer blooming for you. It's one of my very favorite Sibs. I can tell you, though, that it'll be a whole lot happier, will get a whole lot taller and larger-flowered, and will grow and bloom prolifically if you move it away from your beardeds so that you can keep it well mulched, fertilized, and watered. When happy, my SP can flower over 4' tall. Give it the right conditions, and you'll be amazed at what it can do!

Laurie

Not possible to allow the Siberians to grow wild here or they get invasive. Dad likes his mown field and will mow anything not protected by fencing or a raised bed. He is not into flowers but motors so we compromise.

Shaker's Prayer gets fed and we have an artesian well for dry weather but it rains often in thunder showers because we are near Andreoscoggin River and the Ocean. Shaker's Prayer is loaded with buds which amazed me for a first year plant. So are the others I bought from you even the verisicolors.

Mainer,
Thanks for sharing your photos! Making my list for Saturday's sale!!!

Durham, ME(Zone 3a)

Hooked,

Will be there with my husband and my mother, other family will be home that are not interested in irises but my mother likes not knowing what she picks up at the sale and finding out what they are will be up to me. Still not finding much about the irises called Dash Away, Chantilly Dancer and Jesse Lee and they will not be blooming this year. Only two from the sale did not live through the winter. Indian Footprint and Little Show Off. So far I am liking what we picked out.

Julianna,
Papillon is registered but there isn't any info. listed. Could it be that it is new ,not historic?

Bonnie

Deer River, MN(Zone 3b)

'Sibirica Papillon' was registered by Dykes in 1923.

Durham, ME(Zone 3a)

Thanks Bonnie and Laurie. I can now place proper name tags on these plants.

Laurie, I placed your name on my reserve Turkish Topaz list for when it grow big enough to share. Notice your versicolors are starting to bloom now. Grin.

Julianna

Deer River, MN(Zone 3b)

Wonderful, Julianna. Thank you!

Yes, I did see the versicolor pics, and I'm very pleased to see them doing so well for you. They're starting to bloom here, too. What do you think of them?

Durham, ME(Zone 3a)

Laurie
I think versicolors are delicate in looks but hardy in reality. They are in my raised beds and doing fine. Want more of course. Thanks for introducing me to new types of iris last year.

Deer River, MN(Zone 3b)

Versicolors are just about my easiest irises. They can take all sorts of abuse, and my northern MN climate doesn't faze them in the least. You're exactly correct - delicate but hardy.

Gardiner, ME(Zone 5a)

Did you both go to the iris show in Auburn today ? how was it ?

Deer River, MN(Zone 3b)

Not me. A bit too long of a drive. ;-)

Durham, ME(Zone 3a)

The Show was great and Bonnie won ribbons with her historics. Her friend clerked for the show so was learning how things were being judged today. Will share photos when I have time to sort.

Hubby was great today for taking Mother and I to the show, but demands attention now, meaning I must share a movie with him for he went to the iris show with me not really being interested in irises the way I am. Bought about 36 SDBS and one IB for a dollar a rhizome and 5 new ensata for $5.00 a pot. Will need help to find them all most likely. Am now a member of Maine Iris Society and they said they would teach me how to show some of my irises possibly next year.

LOL Laurie,
even though it would be great to meet you :-))
I owe you a follow up letter from last year but we moved late last fall and I have been busting my bud to put a rosegarden in.Over 50 planted so far...20 + to go.So I don't even know why I am on DG's....can't I plant in the rain ? actually I am beat.Tomorrow is another day.

Gardiner, ME(Zone 5a)

Congrat's .....WOW 1 $ per rhizome, that was a steal ! paid $ 5.00 locally in Augusta per rhizome.Glad you took some more pictures.

Farmington, ME(Zone 4b)

Now the fun part! Trying to find enough room to plant all these lovely little babies!! I just love how quickly SDB's multiply. I looked up all the info. for the 25 I bought and now I'm collecting photos of each. I usually save this for winter, but couldn't wait to see what I bought!

Wanda, one of the blue ribbons I got yesterday was for your MME. Henri Cayeux that we traded in 2005.

It was great to meet you Mainer! Always nice to put a face to a name.

Gardiner, ME(Zone 5a)

hooked,
noticed that you are from Farmington ,did you know any Sample's on Middlestreet ? Edna and Vinnie ? she was my husbands aunt and I remember she had some wonderful irises.

Wish I would have taken out time yesterday to drive to Auburn to meet you guys and join the society as well which I have been thinking about for the last 2 years or so.

Farmington, ME(Zone 4b)

Eglantyne,
I believe I have heard my daughter speak of Edna. I'm sure if I saw her picture I'd probably know who she was. I am terrible with names! Did Edna go to Fairbanks Church ?

It would have been nice to meet you also! Maybe next meeting, auction, sale etc..? You can join any time. If you want to D-mail me your address, I would be glad to forward it on to Ted and ask him to send you some info.

Bonnie

Durham, ME(Zone 3a)

Bonnie, I am not a great photographer at show situations. There is clutter like the soda machine in the shots but here goes. If you still want the photos will send later in private email.
