Cold frames

(Zone 4a)

I need a cold frame.

I have windows to use, a good carpenter, and an experienced digger.

Does anyone have any advice on where to set it?

Thank you,

Corinne

Corinne have you come up with a place to put your cold frame yet?

Personally I would find an Eastern exposure in my yard. This way my plants/seedling or whatever, would receive the bright early morning light. This exposure would allow some light but still protect from too much sun in the later afternoon hours, which here in my yard, would bake even the hardiest of plants.

Thanks, Ally,

Your advice is appreciated.

Incidently, I found and now have some Eriogonums.
Your pictures inspired me! I love them!

Hi Corinne,

I made the mistake of putting my cold frame far from the house. I thought
it'd be nice to have it close to my vegatable garden but its so far away I
have a hard time getting out there to water stuff. So I hardly use it.

Thanks, ladies,

This is what I have been thinking on - where to put it:
morning sun, and not too far from the house.

Glad you found some Eriogonums. These are a long lived and unfussy plant given the right conditions. Wish mine would set some seed. Not sure what the deal is there.

Did you order from Granite Garden Rare Plants? I ordered several plants from her this spring and was extremely happy with the size and quality of all the plants I received. These guys are another great source for some choice plants.

Ally,

Yes, I ordered from Granite Gardens and was very pleased with
the plants she sent.

Thanks to you, Ally, I now have some prize plants.
