What is it?

I was in Oklahoma City today on business and visited the Myriad Botanic Gardens. The unique cylindrical greenhouse here houses mostly tropicals in a very unique setting. Here's a picture.

That is cool!!

Inside I saw this unique fruit. It had fallen from one of the trees but I could not tell which one. The largest of these apple shaped fruits was about one inch.

Maybe a new variety of apple we have never heard of? lol

Here is the inside. The fruits are not hard, but extremely firm. The skin is green and very tough. The inside is pure white and has the consistency of hard extruded styrofoam. There is one green seed visible (there may be more inside.) I didn't feel it would be wise to sample the flesh (and it didn't seem appealing at all.)

Any ideas?

I must confess that this fruit should have been posted on April 1. It fooled me until I got home and dissected it. It's amazing how lifelike today's artificial fruit and flowers can be made.

LOL. Good one.
