Does anyone know if I cut back tall fall asters now (May), and maybe again later, to keep them shorter when they finally bloom in the autumn? Like what we do with mums?
can I cut back tall fall asters
I do, and they still get very tall but they do bloom. I always wonder how late I can get away with it.
I cut them back until July 4th and then stop, otherwise I would sacrifice their pretty flowers. The plants have multiplied like crazy over the years and add so much color by my curbside.
I cut them back the second time by July 15th and still have blooms.
Gosh! I hope you can cut them back!! Hubby just wacked mine off with the mower. LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!!!
Thanks so much to you all for your advice. I have cut them back by about a third and will do so again by the Fourth, then sit back and wait for the fall blooms.
