Holes in cut fig branches

After pruning our figs (several varieties), we are now seeing holes in the pithy part of the cut, i.e. the holes go into the length of the branch, not into it from the side.

Is that something to worry about? Could it be some bug? We don't have much experience with figs (but love them!!!!).
