What are drawbacks of leggy plants?

What are the drawbacks of leggy plants? I started most seeds too early this year and as a result, have leggy plants. I try to keep most of them 1-3" from lights (although it's difficult with the various heights). I transplanted them deeply -- but they're still leggy. Just curious what this means for my garden this summer...

They may not look as nice and full and bushy as they could, and they may tend to flop over more and require support. Although if it's just the seedlings that were leggy, my guess is it'll correct itself to some extent once you have them in the garden and they start putting out real growth.

My experience with leggy seedlings is that they are hard to keep alive until the time I can put them outside in the warm sunshine. The ones that did make it till the warm days in May recovered just fine.
