This was an exellent idea for a thread. I've been dying to have pictures worthy of it.

Dalmations (Sorry, snow gave me good subjects)

Now that's creative thinking, billyporter! Where there's a will there's a way. We had a nice sunny day today and most of the snow is finally gone. I went out to snap a few pics. No flowers yet, but I found a few interesting things.

Downy (Magnolia bud)

To me this looks like:

A closed turkey's claw! (Rheum palmatum var. tanguticum)

Butterfly wings hung up to dry. (Amur maple keys)

My first thought was intense

(maybe gaudy would be more appropriate?)

Drag race.

My Mourning Cloak drying it's wings! Reminds me of tree bark.

Weird ruffled chicken heads! aka the flower spikes of Melianthus major:

Awesome! Any chance you can resend the close up pic, jkom51 because the copyright info hides the chicken head. I've never seen such a plant.

podster, the plant on the left is Tanacetum haradjanii, sometimes called 'partridge feathers'.

sanannie, sorry the copyright lettering printed over the Melianthus major flowerhead. Hey, maybe we should call this the "Funky Chicken"! Am I dating myself or what???

Our winter was so mild this year that Purslane did not decline. This is my favorite flowering groundcover. It is cheerful.

I'm so glad this is still going. It's one of my favorite threads! now if only I had something to contribute. I need to light a fire under my imagination.

Someone said these flowers looked like gold coins.

Restrained

The abutilon shown here is one of the hardest plants to shoot. It has shy flowers.

Noticable
