Alpine Garden Society show

North East England, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Hi I had a lovely birthday yesterday and visted an Alpine Garden Society show - what could be better!? I've posted lots of pictures into a Webshots album. It would take ages to post here although I will probably post some in PlantFiles. Have a look here if you're interested http://community.webshots.com/user/trilliums There were some fantastic plants! Didn't buy anything though..!

Hi Galanthophile! Many Happy Returns! I enjoyed looking at (and drooling over) your pictures: must mop the keyboard now. How on earth did you manage not to buy anything?

Thanks for sharing the show with us - some truly amazing plants - and great photos!

Well, happy belated birthday! I can't imagine doing anything that I'd enjoy more on a birthday than attending a plant show with so many outstanding plants. I'll have to go back and brows through your photos again and write down some of the names of plants that looked interesting and of course just enjoy the great photos. I wonder if that Celmisia is cold hardy?

Wow! How do folks manage to grow such glorious plants? Thank you for sharing!!!
They sure do turn me green with envy. I guess its why I keep on trying with these
trying little devils. They are just so darned gorgeous when grown properly.

Thanks everyone. It was the best way to spend a birthday! These are obviously pristine show plants that are grown under glass but it just shows what can be achieved. Gives us something to aspire to.

A happy beleated birthday to you Galanthophile and thanks for sharing those wonderful photos from the show! I've drooled over quite a few photos from the AGS bulletin over the years - wouldn't mind going to one of those shows ....... and there's a plant sale as well??? Oh wow - don't think I'd come home empty handed ........ lol

I had many of the plants that were for sale and the others that I was interested in were very expensive! I plan on visiting a couple of specialist nurseries over the next few months and I'll go with a list and the intention of coming back with quite a few plants (I hope). I have a new sink to plant up...

how I wish we had some specialist nurseries over here ........ really like the sound of those :-) lol I trust we'll get to see the finished result ;-)

Happy belated! I just got back from holidays so I've been busy trying to catch up on the postings. Looks like another great alpine sghow...the UK growers really know how to grow alpines to perfection!

Wonderful photos, Galanthophile. Those Dionysias, in particular, are so perfect they almost look machine-made.
