hi, any tips for growing cloeus from seed? Is it easy? what about pitfalls?

Is it an annual or tender perennial? thanks , jim

I started coleus from seed last year and it was quite easy. The seed were so tiny I sowed them too thick, and it seemed they all germinated. That made them harder to transplant, but I had great luck anyway. Coleus are a tender perennial- very cold sensitive; the first light frosts in fall usually nip them back. Be sure to wait till after your last frost date to plant them out. They make a very easy house plant though. From the seed mix I used, there were a couple of colors I really liked. So in fall I took cuttings from those and have found it easy to keep them going all winter under lights. Those have been my stock plants and now I've got lots of babies from them. Good luck!

I agree with gemini, they are very easy to grow from seed. The seed is very tiny, be careful not to over-sow, or you get crowded babies like me! lol

I just plant the seeds on top of the soil. Do not cover. Just press seeds into the soil with the back of your hands.
They will germ. just fine then.
