When a seed calls for gibberellic acid 3 is there something else you can use? I have datura and brugs seed that my
seedbook says I should use gibberellic acid 3 on them before I plant. I don't have any of this chemical and
was wondering if anyone else has had trouble germinating these seeds without it.
gibberellic acid 3 do I need it?
Riverland, if your seed calls for it, it usually is a hard to germinate seed often calling for stratification. soaking in GA3 will make it germinate a lot sooner. several places sell it. JL Hudson Seedman for one, Jim

thank you I guess I will order some
Brug seeds can be soaked in warm water to soften the corky outer covering. You can then peel this off and plant the white kernel. Germination will be much quicker this way. Have done this with hundreds of brug seeds successfully. Dat seeds do well winter sown but if you're in a hurry, just plant them and keep at 70 degree temps. I usually spray the seeds in the planting tray with kelp solution before covering if I'm planting in the greenhouse.
