Hey folks,
Sorry, I been hybernating.
It is time to get busy again.
We are putting up my new greenhouse. GH#3
We like the structure very much.
From Atlas Greenhouses in Georgia.
20x96
First. Had to pic a spot.
This area is big enough to have 5 20x96 greenhouses. Slowly but surely.
Crickets New Greenhouse
When we had the orchard, from 1944 to 1990 I drove tractors out in the orchard. We couldn't afford new tractors so 50's etc, were what we used. Bet yours like our earlier ones does not have power steering. It was very hard on body parts to drive across ditches, and rough ground. Boy did I like it when we got our first power steering tractor.
Your area looks ready for a great new greenhouse.
Donna
Attached the perlin to top of greenhouse and put down the wood side boards.
I am at a stand still cause it is Raining. Have to put on the Wirelock next.
Wirelock holds the poly on and makes it easier to remove poly in heat of summer.
Now, what do you think I am goin to grow in here.
If you know me, You guessed it.
The greenhouse is only 10 1/2 feet tall in the center.
But will do great for TOMATOES.
yep 672 single vined Big Beef Tomato plants.
Cricket, interesting to see the photo from high, and your highlighted ghs, Will it be spring soon for you.
Donna
Looks great Cricket.
Darrell
Cricket,
I've been watching your threads and progress. Looking at the possibility of at least one Atlas GH. I am thinking they must be good to deal with?
I'm wondering why your gh's are so spread out, I am planning on keeping mine side by side if not gutter connected. Just curious, and learning all over the place!

Hey, Happy Birthday, Cricket!
Haven't seen you around lately.
Looks like you are going big time in tomatoes.
Are you going to have enough room in there with that many plants? Mine is 30 x 96 & this year I am going for 400 plants. That's 5 rows of 80 per row. How are you spacing yours?
Have a great day!
Bernie
howdy folks,
sorry i been sowing seeds and fighting cold nights.
I grow my tomato plants in double rows. the rows are 84 feet long. So that is actually 4 rows in one greenhouse.
I plant one tomato vine every 6 inches. You can put them 4 inches apart if you trim religiously.
Atlas Greenhouses are easy to put up.
And if you have any questions , their main office is more than welcome to help out on
any problem questions.
My front two greenhouses are spaced 4 feet apart and room for one more. Those are for my plant sales.
The greenhouses out back are not for customers. For my Hands ONLY.
OUr heater stopped working in the seed house last night and my tomato seedlings froze. Had to sow more tomatoes. Lost 4 weeks on early production.
Thanks for the Happy Birthdays Folks.
Isn't it great to see your g-house all "dried in" (plastic on)!
Looks good to me, Cricket. (I have another Atlas laying in a pile, hoping to get it up sometime before hot weather hits!)
Didja use the "wiggle wire" on your end hoops to secure the plastic? Just wondering how easy it was to bend to conform to the hoop curve.
Shoe
yes used the wirelock system, and it was very easy.
the most time consuming thing was putting the base on.
Good luck with your new gh horseshoe. It is exciting everytime i put one up. No matter how
many i already have.
Cricket
Thanks, Cricket.
Our first big one went up only 9 yrs ago (and it took me two years to get it finished! I was either running out of time, money, or energy!).
This one will go up much easier I'm sure! Experience sure helps, eh!?
Best of all things to you this season. Keep us posted on how things progress.
Shoe
What do you use as flooring in the greenhouse?
Jesse
I use commercial ground cover that i also purchase from atlas greenhouse in ga. It is heavy duty! Not like that thin stuff you buy at walmart or local stores.
Now that is a greenhouse. Great going
Cricket, nice to see your updated GH pictures. I am sure you will all filled soon. Our weather is beginning to feel like spring. 60 degrees today even with our wind.
Donna
Cricket, how wide is that groundcover you use? Legit
ground cover is 12 feet wide,
I buy a roll 12x300 feet. cost about $125 before shipping.
We have had a heat drought and its barely Spring. It should rain tonight. Ya
updated pictures.
I tilled my rows. Dug a trench for each row of tomatoes and put fertilizer down each trench. Then i cover the fertilizer a little with soil and watered it in. Then i planted my tomatoes.
Mulched with compost manure. Made a little trench beside each row of maters and put fertilizer in trench. Layed out some Soaker Hoses. Watered. Then i PUt my ground cover up next to each row of maters to prevent weeds from growing.
WHA LA. no it was not that easy, very time consuming, and lots of heavy lifting. It took 300 bags of compost manure to mulch. Its not really my final mulching touch. I will be using dry grass clippings as mulch too. All this will help richen the soil this fall when tilled in.
And excuse the mess in picture. I had not picked up my bags yet.
That pic was taken Mar 29. Its all clean now.
