Acerola/Barbados Cherry

Lake Dallas, TX

Any thoughts? I was considering buying one for a patio container plant. I understand they are very high in vitamin C and love hot weather. Does anyone know when they fruit or how often?

Hi tobymv

I have a couple of Barbados Cherry bushes and they more or less flower and fruit through out the year. We have had a very mild winter and my large plant is in bloom right now. Often I have ripe fruit and blossoms at the same time.

Once the plant is established it grows fair quickly. I have had few problems with plant except I have had a couple different scales. I thinned it out and then I treated with Organocide and insecticidal soap a couple of times which took care of it.

Hi tobymv

They taste very good when ripe. They are sweet and tangy. I also like the Grumichama very much.
