It has been raining here for the last two days and more predicted. I know those in the Northern Hemisphere have been having different weather in your winter and we have the same here but of the contrary side, with cold and rain in our summer!
I went out and took a photo today in between showers. Once has to do something when it has been raining!
This is a 'Treasure' Calla, have several others in the home garden but they were planted late and still in bud. Also some Asiatics and Regale lilies, my one Oriental is not even in bud yet. I thought you might like to have a glimpse of summer even if it is rain be speckled!
Blooming Rain!
Thanks for sharing Tess! I'd love to see your other lilies when they bloom too, even if they do make me ache for spring :)
We certainly do have differing weather, so your lovely pics are very much appreciated. Keep them coming!
Thanks for adding some color to my morning, ferrymead.
I just bought my first calla, so now I'm actually trying to learn something about them. I saw your post Ferrymead, and I also saw that in the plant files, there aren't any pictures or comments about the Treasure calla. You should upload your gorgeous rain photo to the plant file. Seeing photos in people's gardens always helps me to decide what to buy. The nursery photos are nice, but I just don't trust them as much as someone's garden photo. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Elphaba,
Thanks for that. Yes, I think I should do something about putting some pics in the plant files.
I have just popped out into the garden and taken some more for you to look at. This one is of Florex Gold.
You might also like to have a look at our own web site on which we have posted some growing instructions. Just google
http://www.calla.net.nz/
hope you have success with your Treasures, they are a favourite of mine.
Beautiful, Ferrymead!
This is Schwatzwalder.
I have noticed that the camera does not alwys show the colour true, The Calla lilies are pretty good, much more difficult for the camera to show a rose in it's true colours. Bright sunlight seems to wash them out.
Thanks, Magnolia lover. I must remember to have a look at the Trees and shrubs forum in our Autumn to see the Magnolias in bloom over there. I have a couple of magnolias planted in my garden but not many blossoms in our Spring as they have only been in the ground for one year.
ferrymead;
Thank you for sending some sunshine our way. We really needed it. The high here was 2 degrees F. Will probably drop to -10 F tonight. So we do cherrish a little sunshine .
Beautiful lilies Thanks
thanks, randbponder, so glad they brightened up a cold day for you. It is a very hot day here and I have all the doors and windows open trying to catch a breeze. I don't know how I would cope with those temperatures you are experiencing. I find it hard enough in our winter. Where we live we nemver get snow only frosts and they are followed by a sunny day.
Here is a pic of the oriental lily Casablanca which is in full bloom, its perfume is quite intoxicating....hope you can imagine it!
Oh, thank you, I can almost smell it! Thank you for sharing. It's -8 degrees F here.
Wonderful! How warm is it there now?
Hi Moby and magnolia lover, I can only take a guess in centigrade .... about 26 degrees, on fahrenheit maybe 80. I don't know what the conversion factor is, must try to find out.
Here are our blue skies as they were an hour ago.
Magnolia lover, the summer flowering magnolias are in bloom now, I see them as I go into town but never have my camera with me. They look so sumptuous. Must remember to take it with me next time I am out/
Oh & the Magnolias. If you get a picture, will you please post it here, since there isn't a Magnolia forum? Pretty please?
What a beautiful sky portrait!
Oh... that looks and sounds heavenly! You're right on with your temp conversion.
Will try and remember to take the camera with me. I also saw those magnolias for sale in the garden centre yesterday, I was very tempted but common sense prevailed as I just do not have the space for one so will just have to admire them in the gardens around the district.
Made an effort to remember the camera when going to a meeting this afternoon. Took a walk home and took pics all the way. Here is the summer flowering magnolia. Looks as if it has been in the ground for may years. Will post the rest of my pics I took on........hmmm..... trees and shrubs...... garden talk..... parking lot???
I think garden talk would be the best.
Very nice photograph, thanks for sharing ferrymead. You're right, it looks very established. Thanks for sneaking it in here for me.
Sneaking?? lol I sure don't mind ~ there are so many forums these day it's hard to follow more than a handful so it's nice to see something different.
Wouldn't it be great if we had a "southern hemisphere" forum where we could hang out in the winter and whine?
That sounds great Moby. My DW gets sick of me whining every winter. So maybe if I whined to someone else I wouldn't bug her so much about moving to a tropical island. :*)
I do like the form of that tree. The slightly knarly look is kind of cool.
Magmolia lover, so lovely to see your pics, they are a wonderful sight. I have a couple of magnolias which are spring blooming and will post them when our spring comes around again.
Moby, there is a southern hemisphere forum, it is Australian gardening.
Intercessor, that one should also suit you if you want to have a look at things summery. The tree has a light system threaded through the branches, looks very pretty at night. Going to post the rest of my pics on the garden talk forum with the name - seen on the way home.
Come on and walk home with me on a summer afternoon.
Yes Mags ~ it does make me excited and wonder if I have the pink one that neighbors describe as pink/purple/white...?
ferrymead ~ thanks for the tip. I know there is a whole new world 'down there', but do you really want to be inundated with winter whiners? lol
I certainly could manage a little cooling off, it is so hot at the moment, I have just had to put on the air conditioner. Aphotoo of a snowy scene would hit the spot. LOl
Oh Moby, you are living in a winter wonderland. Your photo is so beautiful I had to save it in my picture folder. I will open it up whenever I need to chill out. Thank you so much.
You're most welcome.
Love your little UPS button, Moby. Did you marry a UPS man?? LOL!
You look so happy and so warm in your winter hat and gloves and you even put a little scarf on the mini snowman. Why do we always say snowman and never say snowwoman? Cut little scarf it is wearing. Is that a coon skin hat you are wearing/
You must enjoy your winters so much.
Hey what does UPS mean?
Like that hat? LOL It'a Mad Bomber with rabbit lining. The snowman scarf is a sprig of Love Lies Bleeding.
Yes, I did marry a UPS man. It stands for United Parcel Service. I have a friend that works in a funky card / gift shop who order it for me.
What a great trade name, glad that a pesky rabbit gave its life for a fashion item, bunnies are persona non grata in our country, cause so much damage to the farming land and turn it into a dessert. They were introduced into our country and have no natural predators.
Our daughter and son in law have a rural post delivery firm and have to deliver lots of parcels too.
Is it difficult to become a NZ citizen :*) I would like to live in a Z9...
Easist way is to be born here or marry one. lol. Lots of Americans do live here, there are three on a wine making evening class I started on Thursday, when I get to know them I will ask how they came to be here. Or you could travel down to California but I am sure you would miss all your beautiful winter scenery.
