Common myna. Sorry to read it's an introduced species and held in low regard :(

Oh magpied I think you are right, such a shame it wasn't the rare one, but the white under wings wasn't mentioned with that one. It's similar Noisy Miner is a Honeyeater too, but the Common Miner fits.
The Common Myna measures 23cm - 26cm. It is sometimes confused with the slightly larger (24cm - 29cm) Noisy Miner, Manorina melanocephala. Although, both have similar names, the Noisy Miner is actually a native honeyeater. Both have yellow bills, legs and bare eye skin, but the Common Myna is brown with a black head. In flight it shows large white wing patches. The Noisy Miner is mostly grey.
I am astounded by the colors of the birds in other parts of the world - although we get tons of feathered friends out here in the Pacific Northwest, there are none of the bright, vivid colors.
I have enjoyed this thread immensely - Ginger, you are quite the photographer and I adored the story of the cockateils from the link you shared. And I also learned from what you said about holding the birds, although I have had to hold them differently when picking them up after they hit my window! Anyway, thanks for your stories - and your studio must be wonderful!!
Pepper, you make me laugh.
Yep, making people laugh is my job!! LOL
Ginger,
I could no doubt find scads of bird sites for ya', but I'm not sure what your specific interests are. A quick check for honeyeaters in your area yielded this site with lots o' pics: http://photogallery.canberrabirds.org.au/index.htm
By the way, don't hold a bird by its legs!! This isn't safe for many species and one can easily break a bird's leg(s) in this manner. :O
