Soil ? for blueberries

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

I plan to try a few of those dwarf Sunshine Blue bushes in large containers on my deck. Any ideas for soil amendments? I usually use ProMix which has a neutral pH. I know Blueberries like a more acid soil. What should I add?

In your case, I would run down to the local nursery, and and buy a bottle of liquid soil acidifier, (Green light is one brand) apply ( watering can) according to directions. Of course you could use an acidic potting soil.

Farmer D, do you have a brand of acidic soil?

Augusta, GA(Zone 8a)

Your nursery probably has one for acid loving plants. It is used for azaleas and the like. You can make own from
2 parts sharp sand

2 parts loam

2 parts peat moss

1 part leaf mold or humus

1/3 part dried cow manure

.

Thanks Farmer D, that is interesting, I have never seen any potting soil sold as acidic.

I think I will probably use my old standby ProMix and fertilize with azalea/camellia food, that might help. If the leaves start turning yellow I'll find some of the Green Light stuff you mentioned.

In case you do want to use a designed mix, here are some brands, http://www.debco.com.au/products/potting/camelia.php

Any local nursery thats sells acid loving plants like Azalea, Rhodedendron, Blueberries should have a growing mix. It is too expensive to ship for online shoppers.

Thanks, I'll have to look the next time I get to a larger community. Beaufort County is not exactly Augusta, our nurseries are much smaller.
