green cotton plant

Scott, LA(Zone 8b)

I am looking for a plant that is known as Green Cotton. It originated in South America. It grows actual cotton. I do not know the scientific name for this plant. I am searching for this plant for another person. If you have any information about this plant please let me know.

The PlantFiles search function is really wonderful for this sort of thing!

Assuming you do mean plants that grow textile cotton... Try this PF page for general info about cotton: http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/54243/index.html

I know cotton comes in different colors, although I haven't grown any variety myself.

Oh! There's a link for a green variety in PF too, http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/126374/index.html

Follow the link at the top of the PF page to vendors that sell seeds or plants of what you're looking for.
For example, here's a source for 'Erlene's Green' cotton seed, http://www.southernexposure.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=72202

Don't forget to check the Garden Watchdog to see a vendor's ratings and reviews before ordering... GF & GW are great resources here at DG!

Thank you for helping me locate this plant. I will pass this information on to my friend that wants to acquire this plant for her yard. She already grows the common type of cotton. She uses these plants as part of her teaching methods in her classroom. She was raised in the Delta and these plants are from her childhood. Thanks again for researching this plant for me.

I have seeds for green cotton, that were collected in 2005 and sent to me by a generous member. If you are interested in a few seeds, email me.

I did not grow it myself (yet) but she told me it took 180 days for it to mature, so it should be started early especially in a lot of cooler areas.
