Daikon radish refuses to die

Springfield, MO(Zone 6a)

Did my final harvest today - dug up some taters (I always forget about them) and this last radish. I've let this one since I actually got tired of eating them. After all, how much can two people eat? This is "New Crown" and was planted in early Spring. For some reason this one never went to seed.

Have you ever tried cooking daikon and potatoes together? Delicious! Just pare and scrape then cut into chunks; cook until soft enough to mash. Add some butter and a little garlic salt. It's a taste both familiar and new.

Thanks! We'll try it.

Wow! That is quite a daikon! I better try them again.

Yuska,
Your recipe sounds kind of like turnips and potatoes, which is also delicious. I find daikon is a pretty good substitute for turnips. Have you found that?

Haven't tried turnips and potatoes but will certainly do so. When parsnips haven't been sweetened yet by a hard freeze, daikon can be a substitute.

Glad to hear that about the substitute for parsnips. I'll have to give it a try.
