Brown Iris

Blandinsville, IL(Zone 5a)

I'm up and running again!

Over the last two years I've aquired quite a few iris, but I have very few brown ones. What is everyone's favorite in the brown color.

You gotta have Huckleberry Fudge...sorry, I don't have a picture of for you.

Blandinsville, IL(Zone 5a)

Weegy,

Thanks I will add that one to my list of wants.....it just keeps growing.

Annie

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

You're right...how do you think I ended up with 450!???? Huckleberry Fudge is a beauty, and I may be crazy, but I can smell a hint of chocolate in it. If you want one, let me know, I can send you one when it's right for your area. Have fun!

Weegy,

I'm sending you a d-mail

Yes Laurie, very nice!

Blandinsville, IL(Zone 5a)

Laurie, I've been to your site this morning also. I also have put it on my favorites. Like I told Weegy, "I better start an Iris fund instead of a Christmas Club". Both you guys will be hearing from me in the spring.

Annie

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Annie, looking forward to it!

Deer River, MN(Zone 3b)

Thanks, guys! I've been working like a dog on it. I had to gather all those pages and files from four different servers, then go through each page individually to make sure all of the URL and image links work correctly. The iris portion of the site is now all working properly, but I still have many, many of the personal pages to fix.

An internet addict's work is never done. ;-)

Laurie

Blandinsville, IL(Zone 5a)

Yes, you've done a great job Laurie.

Annie

Oro Valley, AZ(Zone 9a)

I'm impressed Lauri,
You have done tons and tons of work on it, since I last saw it. It is easy to navigate, the photos are excellent representatives of the iris themselves, it's organized............wow! I've added your link to my iris links as well.

Annie,
A couple of others that are at least half brown are: (see photos at links)
Bugundy Brown (TB), http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/34314/index.html
Santana (TB), http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/36400/index.html
Cut Above (BB). no picure - brown standards and edges, white to pale yellow falls.
20, 30, 40 years ago - - there were a lot of brown irises introduced. I'd like to see some more of them introduced.

One I've been looking for and don't know if I can find it - - is called Chocolate Pudding. It has velvety brown falls and is suppose to be a rebloomer. Has anyone here heard of it, or grown it, or know where to find it?

Below is an old photo I've found and scanned of Burgundy Brown from years and years ago. Great grower! NOTE: The falls were more yellow (not orange) blending to white than what that photo shows.

Annie,
I just remembered another mostly brown iris:
Hot Chocolate (TB) a semi-recent Ghio iris http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/35304/index.html

Margie,

Thanks for your kind comments about my website. I do love working on it.

As far as I can tell, CHOCOLATE PUDDING was never introduced. It was registered in 1989, but there is no addendum regarding introduction in the 1999 Check List. Unfortunately, the hybridizer, Louise Smith of VA, is now deceased.

Thanks for the links Margie, They are just stunning!

My two favorites are Chocolate Marmalade and Cable Car. The best photos I've seen are at www.iris-cayeux.com Click on the English link on the home page to switch printed language. Then look under the Tall bearded Iris selection and choose Warm Shades.
I may have to break down and buy them, those photos are edible:LOL:

Again...nice site. I just revisited it and looked through your trade list. I have 6 of them on your wish list that I just acquired this summer, so depending on how quickly they develop, I would love to trade sometime. Thanks.

Margie-
Again, your pics are wonderful. Thanks.

Hello all,

Keep those pictures coming. The only one I have that is mentioned above is Thornbird, so I will be adding all the above to my wish list for next year.

We got news Friday that another one of my sisters was diagnosed with Lymphoma. I will be taking her to Springfield on Thursday for a biopsy and consultation for course of treatment. We've learned with Shelby and Dee Dee all things are possible and we keep a positive attitude. It is strange though that since 2002, my son and two sisters have been diagnosed with leukemia and Lymphoma. I sometimes wonder if it isn't genetic.

Again, thanks for posting pictures I sure enjoy seeing them!

OHHHHH keep those pics coming, and my want list keeps growing.

Sis and I went to the specialist on Thursday, and after more xrays, blood, breathing, and oxygen level tests he ask us if we had ever heard of "Sarcoidosis". He thinks it might be this but will not know for sure till after the biopsy next Tuesday.

Time to start some coffee.

av,
Thanks for the link. The iris on it are spectacular. Is the purple one you posted Chocolate Moose? It is stunning. Love your seedling as well. It cheers me up to see all these lovely iris now that most things are frozen here in New Mexico.
