Not sure what this one is but it is one I planted this summer and thought was a goner after the puppies and chicken had their way with it. This is one of the best surprise I have had in my garden recently.. This is not the best picture. I accidentally delete the better one but it still shows the pretty color.
Here is a pretty bloom
What a pretty Clematis and a delightful surprise!
Very pretty!!! Has a hot pink overlay. I thought it was General Sikorski, but Mine doesn't have those mauve anthers.
Debbie
Could it be an immature bloom of "The President"?..Jeanne
It is a 5 inch or more bloom. But no it is not president.
"Ramona"?
Could be Ramona at least that sounds more familiar. I still have not had a chance to dig around in the area where this is planted and see if I can find a tag.
I have been growing Clematis for 3 years very similar to the one posted. In my area, at this time of the year the stems are all withered so I prune them to ground level. Is this correct?
Clematis shouldn't be pruned until late winter/early Spring..to make more zonal sense out of that...do it when you first Prune your Roses for Spring or when you see the Forsythias in bloom...that will work regardless what zone you are in..another thing is to take into account which clematis group you have so you can learn how to properly prune them..If it was a Clematis "Ramona"..it shouldn't be pruned since it is a pruning group 2 and if you need to prune to "shape" or "Keep in bounds" then it should only be done After it's bloom period..Some Clematis get "Withered" leaves this time of the year but those that are pruning group 2 and 1s will put out new leaves at the leaf axil come spring....so, if you know the name we can give you some advise..I also have a pic where I hard Pruned if you need to see it..that is done for the Viticellas aka Pruning group 3s...Jeanne
This pic is what the vines should look like after "Hard Pruning"
Lovely, Marie. I think it's 'Elsa Spath.'
