The strong winds in Chincoteague, VA, have uprooted a biggish butterfly bush. Can I cut it back and replant it now (October 7)? Or what should I do?

I'd just replant it. Cut it back some for convenience in handling, but save the hard pruning for the spring. Throw a bit of root stimulator in the hole.
In my experience butterfly bush is pretty much indestructible. I ripped one out about 4 years ago and this year had shoots coming up from under the paving stones I put on top of its former home.
Good luck
Thanks--I'll do it!
