Hi everyone!

I posted on ID Forum, but got no replies....

Maybe some of you berry experts could help! Here's the hyperlink:

With that color, my immediate thought was Beautyberry - http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/2657/index.html
but that's not a human-edible, I don't believe.

Plants in the Aronia genus also come to mind, but I'm not sure the color is a good match - http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/56680/index.html or http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/73560/index.html and a few more..

Browsing the plant files, I also see a red mulberry http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/58163/index.html

Can you give a bit more detail on the berry? Was it a single, round berry? Or a compound berry like blackberries/raspberries? Were there clusters or singly spaced, rather like cherries?

BackyardZoo, thanks a million for taking the time to answer!

I checked your links and I'm afraid none of them is what I'm looking for.. But please don't give up on me LOL!

The berries are single berries gathering in clusters of 5/6. And it was a compact shrub, though of course I have no idea what it will look like when it grows.. the leaves are a deep dark green and somewhat hard...

The berries are the exact colour of my drawing... and they don't really look edible to me!

Very pretty!

I'm glad you found it. Tropicals are definitely not my area of expertise, so I probably would have been no help at all, even with the better berry description!

Thanks so much!

Turns out it was listed in PlantFiles already, under the name Chillean Pepper!

;-)
