Split the fan leaves?

Edmond, OK

After I transplanted the fan shape palms like European fan palms, they new grown leaves are not opening up. I have to split the the leaves to make it look like a fan, if not they are not even open up.

Am I suppose to do that?

What I mean is tear open the leaves to make it look like the normal fan shap.

Are you saying that the unopened frond is up all the way-where the stem is totally exposed and a new frond coming up, and the frond hasn't opened at all? It takes a while for them to open sometimes, and sometimes when new fronds of plants don't open up as they should it's because they are dry and need more water. Not sure if that's the case here....

You should not have to split the leaf-

Can you post a picture of one where it hasn't opened before you split it?

If you have a bunch of unopened, but otherwise mature leaves, you can soak them in neem oil and that will usually let them open up.. this usually means you have had some damage to the bud and they are growing abnormally.

I have already opened them. I will do it for the next leaves.
