I'm new at collecting seeds. what do the seeds of autumn colors look like? Is it the light colored things?

Ripe seeds are rarely light colored - especially from a flower with a black or dark brown center. If you get light seed, it either isn't ripe or you got the wrong half.

Are these and purpleconeflowers cut placed in baggie and hung up side down to get the seed? Dumb question I know but I want to try saving seeds from my own stuff.

The seeds of the coneflower are blonde. I started collecting seeds from my 'White Swan' coneflowers and found out from a picture in plantfiles (by poppysue) that I had actually collected part of the chaff instead. I realize now that the coneflower seeds are blonde.

hi all;
i rub my thumbnail over the seed head roughly and the seeds hop out. with the seed head remaining intact. time consuming but worth the effort for such a bright flower.
