Planted the seeds in Late february,in a plastic meat tray, seeds germinated in about 30 days, transplanted to a yellow 16oz dixie cup. Then about May potted up into a black plastic gallon nursery pot,now here in July once again potting up to a 3 gallon container.
Would it of hurt to go from the dixie cup to the 3 gallon pot,or would that just make it easier for root rot?
Robusta Seedling,
Going from a dinky container to a large one does increase the chance of root rot, but that also depends on your species and climate. That species could probably be germinated in a 15 gal pot and left there if you wanted to (at least in a California climate)... but switching pots like you are doing is really the best and safest way to go. Plus, palms, for some reason, seem to be healthiest when their roots are crammed into the pots, rather than 'floating' in a large sea of soil. If you have a really rare/expensive palm, I certainly would recommend doing just what you are doing. With W robustas, though, you could probably skip a few steps.
Thanks, that'll be good to know,if I ever germinate some more!!!
