Doesn't just looking at her photos just make you excited?
Oh my!

Coaling, AL(Zone 7b)

I am a newbie as of about 30 minutes ago, and I would love some bulbs for postage. I have an enormous yard that I have only recently begun putting flower gardening beds into (I've been more of a veggie gardener to date), so I am looking for all sorts of colors and plants! I'll DMail you.

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

ullady--just click on my name in the left hand column by one of my posts. That will take you to my page. Click on my dmail & send your address. Please remind me that you like dwarfs too & I will include some!

lizren--you are scaring me. iris BULBS??? LOL Be sure to plant the iris rhizomes near the TOP of the ground with the rhizome crown peeking out of the soil. Please plant in a dry place with at least 6 hours of sun. Water them once & then walk away. Planting too deep and watering them are sure ways to rot them out.

I'll be digging a clump of Credo tonight & moving it. Some of you will get the extra rhizomes.

Nice...very nice!

*drool*

I started to Dmail you to see if you were interested in trading some extras (I've been a subscriber since Jan 05, dug my iris bed last year) for african violets or anything else... and then I looked at the new irises that are waiting for a break in the heat so I can plant them out... and I realized that maybe I shouldn't let my eyes get bigger than my shovel (so to speak)... ROTFL!

But I thought I'd post anyway to thank you for your generosity in digging and sharing all these beauties! You're going to "hook" a bunch of folks on growing irises! :-)

Wellington, OH

Hi Wanda,

I know I'm very late getting here. I'm a newbie - but certainly understand if you're all out by now. I'll D-mail just in case. Kay

Wanda, seems like you have a lot of experience shipping iris... Is there any problem with shipping them in hot weather as long as they have had a couple of days to dry out properly? How hot is too hot? I have somebody in AR willing to ship me some IM and dwarf bearded iris rhizomes next week... it is going to be below 90 on this end, but highs in the upper 90's in AR... should we wait?

Thanks!

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Wanda - your iris beds are inspirational!

I've sent hundreds of boxes of iris & other plants to gardeners over the past few years.

Trim the iris blades to 4-6 inches --new blades will grow after they are re-planted in their new home. If you dry the iris for a couple of days(NOT in the sun!) and then ship with newspaper to help keep them dry, it seems okay. I always poke holes in the box to let moisture out. Iris love the heat & dry weather. It's the humidity in the box that can get you into trouble and the length of the trip.

Iris look smaller if you dry them, but they seem to adjust better to their new home & ship better.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Thanks, Wanda -- I knew you'd have the answer for us! Sounds like it's also a good idea then to ship iris separately from other plants that might have moist, plastic-wrapped roots....

Aurora, CO(Zone 5a)

If irises love heat and dry weather, they'll certainly love Colorado. We got plenty of both.

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

A storm came last night with brief rain , but cooler weather! YES! I guess you what I'll be doing this weekend....

Thanks

Wanda is one of the most generous people I know. Here is a link to the open garden she had when her Iris were blooming. It was an amazing riot of color! If you ever get the chance to visit Wanda, you should do it in a heartbeat. Not only is she a talented gardener, she one of the nicest people I know. :)

Wow, I hadn't seen the open garden thread, from when the irises were blooming. Amazing!

Coaling, AL(Zone 7b)

Wanda - just reread this thread and realized I said bulbs in reference to irises ... I must have had bulbs on the brain, having spent most of the morning trolling websites for daffodils and grape hyacinths...

Nipomo, CA(Zone 8a)

Wanda how sweet of you to share. I am a sort of newbie. I joined last year for a month and rejoined last week. Thanks

Wanda, I'm a newbie about a week old and also new to gardening generally. I inherited an iris garden from a woman who died of cancer. I was reluctant to take it on but the iris seduced me. So I'm trying to learn to do right by them. I'd love to have something from your garden if you have any left. Will DMail my address.

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Plenty of iris here--spent all day yesterday digging. Here is one of my historic favorites--Mme. Henri Cayeux

Peterstown, WV(Zone 6a)

Wanda. I'm a newby, and would be pleased to get any color available. OOOO I can't wait!

Will D-mail you now!

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Gotcha plant nut & music--your boxes will be mailed out today in a few moments. That makes 22 boxes today and my kitchen counter is cleaned up.

But I'm going outside to dig more iris for DG Newbies. Postage costs only--4 colors of Tall Bearded iris .

Here is one going in some of the boxes today . Conch Call. It had 4 1/2 foot tall stalks this spring!!!

Oh my, Wanda - I had to cancel the order from Schreiner's (you know how budgets can go), but I sent the postage yesterday, though it probably won't get out 'til Monday's pick-up. So your iris will be my only iris, and I hope I can do right by them.

I plan to put them in a raised bed to protect them from my dogs. Is 4'x4'x12"H big enough?

Thank you over and over!
Laura

Wanda - They are all absolutely beautiful! Kay

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

You have plenty of room. Plant the rhizomes as pairs so they can grow and form a clump with space between them and other clumps. They need to stay dry to perform right for you.

My next boxes will be mixed TBs , Intermediates & dwarfs--4 colors.
Fall Fiesta is one of the iris dug & ready to go. Any more Newbie takers?

Hi Wanda,
I've been unable to access my internet for a few weeks and am just now seeing your post and generous offer.
I'm not a complete newbie to DG but am a recently addicted newbie to irises. The 2 I have are doing really well, so I'm hoping to add to them. If you still have any left of any kind, I'm more than happy to give them a loving home. :-)
Please let me know. I'll dmail my address (just in case).
Thanks again!

Hello Wanda,
I'm sorta of a newbie. I was here last year dreaming and learning, and then I built my house, and came back to participate this time as I have alot of dirt now. After the newbies, If you would consider, I would love to take your offer. I've never sent a SASE, so , If you could enlighten me, that would be wonderful. Thankyou, Andrea.

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Andrea,

I'll be happy to dig some iris for you. I'm still cleaning & moving clumps and have plenty to share.

Thank you, my new irises are in the soil. Will they leave out between now and the first freeze? How should I water them? Sorry about the questions, I am a newbie. I'm so excited! Postage cost was sent to you today, I hope you like it!

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

I can't wait for my package to arrive - Wanda - your iris are some of the most beautiful I have seen in years!!

Thank you so much for sharing.

Audrey

Aurora, CO(Zone 5a)

My package arrived today! Thank you so much, Wanda.

Now should I put them in the ground this weekend? Other iris that I've ordered won't even ship until mid-September. If not, then how do I properly store them until I should put them in the ground?

I'm excited about planting my first irises.

Logan, UT

My package arrived! Dwarf, intermediate, and tall! What a wonderful welcoming gift - I'm planting them today!

Check is in the mail, Wanda. Thanks so much - you have the iris spirit of being generous with your beautiful gifts. Also, thanks for the beautiful cards. Are you a photographer?
