shjpping louisiana iris

Grand Rapids, MI

I HAVE NEVER DEALT WITH TRADING LOUISIANA IRIS BEFORE. ARE THERE ANY SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS THAT SHOULD BE FOLLOWED OR DO YOU SHIP THEM LIKE TB IRIS? WOULD APPRECIATE ANY FEEDBACK . THANKS, CECIL

Deer River, MN(Zone 3b)

I would wait until temps cool a bit (end of Aug., perhaps) before shipping any beardless irises. Unlike beardeds, beardless roots and rhizomes must be kept damp in transit. If they dry out, the plants will likely be goners. However, shipping wet-packed plants during excessive hot temps may cook or rot them.

Wait a month, then ship if temps have cooled off some.

Louisiana Iris: Sept (and Oct if to the south); ship with rhyzome (sp?) in plastic bag with something that will stay wet (wrap them in wet newspaper or thick paper towels, etc.). Tape bag tightly around foliage near base. Cut foliage to about 3-5".

Hope this helps. I don't know a darn thing about the other kinds. =)

THANKS LAURIE AND DEBBIE, THE INFORMATION IS DEFINATELY APPRECIATED. CECIL
