Does anyone know if Prunus mexicana can be pollinated by Prunus angustifolia? I am also trying to find a source for Prunus mexicana but it seems to be hard to find. I want it to serve mainly as an ornamental, but if I could get some plums that would be nice too.
Mexican Plum
E-guy,
I think they'd be compatible - IF bloom times overlap.
I've got P.americana & a named-variety("Guthrie") P.angustifolia(on P.americana) growing in close proximity, but I don't think their bloom periods coincide.
I've got plenty of P.angustifolia and many more suckers everyday. I'm surprised P.mexicana is not more popular because it's drought tolerance and larger size.
It's gaining some ground as an ornamental, but still a long way from overtaking the purple-leafs, weeping cherries, etc.
