Man made prairie pics

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

I was at a site today that has a prairie put in at least 7 or 8 years ago and here is what is there today.

Liatris is fairly common

It is brush hogged about once a year to keep the sweet clover and cottonwoods down

I doubt chickory was seeded, but it could be worse

Black Eyed Susan's are not so common, not nearly like I've seen them spread in captivity

This is my favorite - and I forgot the name. I want to say triloba something.
This is doing the best in this dry site.

Lastly the Purple Coneflower is stable and hanging in there.

Well that's it - I hope you enjoy it.

Your "triloba" plant is Purple Praire clover - Petalostemon purpureum.

I was close ;) I do know it does well in very dry sites.

Yes Al--I'd say its hanging in there better than some of mine are. LOL

Does this site belong to a private person or is it one of those prairie restoration projects? We have several of those here.

It's at a light industrial manufacturer. I have seen some others around and they don't seem to have the diversity and the low amount of thistles.

How pretty! I did enjoy looking at those pics. Gave me some good ideas for my gardens too. ;)
