They are called leaves. On the leaves are leaflets. Wodyetias don't branch, but there are some branching palms (rare). So your palm is only holding a single leaf at a time? Sounds either sick, or getting too little water, or...? But if your palm has 3-4 leaves, and the oldest turns brown when a new one opens, that's normal.
