Display plants at specialist nurseries

North East England, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

These are from Edrom nurseries - they have some great new alpine display beds and are currently planting a 4 acre woodland garden... These are the beds.

Sebaea is a new genus to me...looks to be related to gentians...what a great plant. My Daphne retusa is just about open. I got a Sax. Dr. Clay last year...I think it might have one flowering stalk this year.

Are the smaller labelled plants in your garden or from the nursery?

Having just looked at the other thread, I understand they are from the nursery display. In some respects, I wish we had an alpine nursery here but then again, I'd be bankrupt if we did!

Yes Todd these are all nursery specimens. The nurseries were a long way from where I live and when I was there if I saw anything I really liked I thought hang the expense - I'd regret it if I'd come away without something I wanted. I did leave my list at home - just as well although I did get a few things on it. There was one pulsatilla I'd wish I'd got though - see I'm doing it already! I'll post some pics of the plants I did get in another thread

Some very cool plants! That little Sebaea caught my eye as well, it reminds me a bit of a gilia. What a great place. I love the look of those raised beds. What a treat to be able to see the plants that your buying in a garden setting.

Yes it is a huge advantage to see the scale of plants before you buy. The 2 nurseries I went to often go to specialist plant shows where they sell their plants - they are often at the Alpine Garden Society shows. The picture I posted at the top is of the nursery that won a gold medal at the Malvern Flower Show last week. Hope they are going to Chelsea.

Wonderful! I love the folliage on the bolax.

That Bolax just knocks me out! I've never seen it and now I really want some.

The specimen of the bolax I saw at Lamberton was huge - about 2-3 feet in diameter - mighty impressive. Didn't see any for sale but then I wasn't looking specifically for that. Lovely plant though.
