How to prune/deadhead a coral honeysuckle

St. Louis, MO(Zone 5b)

I’m new to vines and gardening in general, and I have a coral honeysuckle (Lonicera sempervirens) that is growing and blooming fine , however I am wondering if I should prune it or deadhead to get more blooms.

It appears to have two kinds of shoots, one with the flower like the pic below and one that just grows.

If I do deadhead, should I cut it above or below the “round” leaf right below the flowers?

Thanks for any help and/or education.

I don't know if deadheading will lenghthen blooming, but give it a try!

Personally, I'd cut each stem back pretty far so as to cause side shoots to form. They may bloom, but if not, you've thickened up your plant some and that'll show next year.

Hmm....that's a good idea, I hadn't thought of that. That said I may just give it a try. Thank you!

It has been my experience that if you don't dead head it produces little red berries that the birds love in the fall. Also, mine produces new growth just below the blossom cluster--right where the solid round leaf is. I absolutely LOVE my coral honeysuckle. Good luck
