The stalks are bout 2.5-3 feet high.

I have a historic iris but not sure of the name it is a silvery blue color. I know its been around since the mid 1800's as a picture of the rental house we have had pics of them with the house when it was first built.
My house is 140 years old and the plants are old that wwere here. Have 2 tone dark purple iris=no pics Shirley

Yes, I could go with 'somewhat reminiscent of grapes' only because I have some of those old lavender ones that really do smell like grapes!
Does your iris ever have those protrusions from the beard?

I don't remember seeing any protrusions, bu I'll keep an eye out for the "horns".
