I'm jealous of your bloodroot. I've never seen such a pretty example. Nicely done lass! LOL!

Your photography is superb. Mine is not but here it is anyway.

Now you see I call that a woodland not a garden! You are so lucky to have that much space. It looks fantastic. Yes as you can imagine I was so pleased with my double bloodroot this year. It is one of my very favorite plants! This was how it looked at the beginning of the month.

You have a wonderful garden and I bet it keeps you busy. I'd love to have a shade garden this size. Oh well at least I can grow a wide range of plants and I manage to have something in flower every day of the year. Enjoy!

It's really not that big...

It's beautiful when things bloom in the shade. This is Clematis Montana Rubens. It grows in the shade of my porch running along the beam. Don't ask me why it blooms here. Smells like vanilla!

This is Tiarella Spring Symphony blooming in full shade behind the gazebo with sword fern.

Azaleas under the redwood trees. We don't rake in this area to help the redwoods stay healthy.

levilyla -

What is the red bloomer with the dark stems that you said "yes in the shade" about? Maybe if I could see the leaves better I would know . . . .

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

It is actually bright orange...an Exbury Azalea.

Love that sword fern - very dramatic. I was just admiring my tiarella Cygnet today - again they are great plants for shade.

I do like tiarellas with green leaves in dark shade. They really show up.

brunnera Jack Frost is blooming right now but it's almost at it's end.

Jack Frost is one of THE best plants - it's fabulous!

Pink Sea Grass is beginning to bloom.

Pink Sea Grass is another new one on me. This shady forum is so cool. Is this plant a durable grower. It looks fragile, water sensitive . . . .

Peter

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

No, it's pretty tough. It can grow in full sun too.

I can grow a lot of sun plants in the shade with no problem but it may be because of my high zone.

These are viola Penny Lane. They are great performers and are available online from Graceful Gardens.

Varigated lily of the valley.

Wow that lily of the valley is gorgeous - I have the ordinary sort and it is spreading all over. It is so lovely though I don't mind.

Elkhart, IA(Zone 5a)

I wish this one would spread faster so I could add it to different places in the garden. As it is, it's a very slow grower.

Monroe, NC(Zone 7b)

I already put it in my "plants to get" folder! Great voliage - but also a super picture.

Elkhart, IA(Zone 5a)

Don't you love the smell of lily of the valley? The fragrance just fills the air.

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Ann, your shade gardens are gorgeous! I'm so envious of your mature clump of Sanguinaria. I will definitely be adding that to my wish list.

Here are a few shade loving plants from my garden.
