About those desert hills and the folks who don't appreciate a quiet walk, Sofer...I would really hate living near a public area where people did off-road stuff. This isn't quite the same, but it reminded me of a camping trip we took one long weekend. We camped at a very pretty campground, but because it was so close to the highway and a steep grade, all we heard through the night was semi trucks downshifting and whining brakes. We found a more off-the-beaten-path spot for the next few nights. Too bad, because it was a beautifully-maintained little family owned campground with spots beneath pine trees.
When we camp, we like being off away from people a bit. We stayed Thursday night at Dillon State park last week when our weather was so gorgeous. There weren't any people near us when we first got there, but several pick-up's hauling campers came in that evening. We were up on a hill above them, so it wasn't too bad. We slept in the van, me on the bench seat/sofabed and Howie on an air mattress. It was a good time. I'll have pictures in the Camping, Hiking and Boating forum soon(ish). http://davesgarden.com/place/f/camping/all/
