Before the season really gets into full swing here, I'd like to share some pics of some of my iris seedlings. (photographs I have from last year)
The majority of them were "plicatas" that bloomed for the first time for me.
Seedling 1
Tall Bearded Seedlings - possiblities of what can be
There were others too - but these give you an idea of all the different kinds I have.
So, if you were to choose your favorite 2 - - which ones would they be?
~ Margie
Beautiful Margie,
They are really stunning. I can see that you've been having a really good time. Thanks for taking the time to share them.
Their forms are all really full and beautiful too.
Edited to say #4 and #12.

They are all beautiful, but I am really, really partial to #6. My second favorite is harder to choose, but probably #11
Are you going to register them?
Very nice!!! All of them are good, but my favorites are #3 and #12.
How many years does it take for an Iris from seed to flower?
Steve
they're all beautiful! i like #4 and #12.
belinda
SW Gardener - - from once the seed is planted (usually in fall) until the first bloom (2 springs later) ends up being about 2 and 1/2 years. On rare occassions 1 and 1/2 years. It does take a while - - but usually worth it! :-)

Love 'em ALL! Thank you!
Margie, I've thought about crossing my own iris but I haven't yet. The only bearded I have now is a dark purple variety that seems to have been around forever! But it's something I'd definitely like to try.
Thanks for the info on seed sowing.
Steve
Margie, you're such a show off!! Keep it up! I'd have to say they're all my favorite.
I think I will try it!!! I'm going to keep my eyes open for a good crossing buddy for the purple variety I have. Thanks Margie! You've convinced me to finally try hybridizing Iris!
Steve
Does someone have directions on how to hybridize? I think margie's got me convinced that I want to try it too!
Steve and Weegy - take a look at these iris hybridizing links. They will tell you how to get started on your own beauties!

I'm bumping up last years thread about hybridizing irises too.

WOW! These are all beautiful, it's hard to choose. I'm going to go with #2, #12 and #BB13.
I really enjoy your great photos Margie. I'm always happy to find one of yours in the 'Plant Files'.
Sandy
The video makes it look so easy. And the other links were great too!
Thanks again Margie! I'm going to check out the other thread....
Steve
Wow, Margie! Beautiful seedlings! I love them all, but 4, 6 and your BB are the most striking to me.
Laura
BB13 is simply gorgeous.
They're all beautiful, 3 and 6 are my favorites. Irises are pretty new to me and I seem to have developed an addiction to the purple plicatas. I've had to remind myself to order other colors too.
Vicki
Hi , #4 and #12 are my favorites, if I HAD to pick , but that is hard. I want to come see up close and personal :)
oh wow--lovely blooms and great pics to show them off nicely!
the subtle shading of #3 really grabbed me and #4 is very soothing to the eye but also has a sense of 'spark' w/ the deeper flecks on the stds
let us know what you decide about registering....hybridizing is a fascinating process!
I keep looking at these beauties, and I have to add #4 to my list of favorites.
Sandy
I find it interesting to see which ones are listed more often as favorites, and those not listed at all. Thank you for your response..................... it helps to give me an idea of what iris lovers (as well as the general public) may like. After this spring bloom I may be registering some of these as well as some other seedlings from the previous year. When I do I can let you know. :-)
~ Margie
Yes, please let us know!!
And if you want any help picking names................ :D
Steve
I would love name suggestions!! :-)
~Margie
Wow Margie! Such ruffles on a border bearded! How big is the flower? And obviously happy in the warmer regions.
Oh goody!!!
Here is a few ideas I had....
#2 'Blueberry Trifle'
#6 'Midnight Explosion'
#11 'Northern Sunrise'
those are some name ideas I had, hope you like!
Steve
They are all just gorgeous! My favorites are #4 and #12. #BB13 is also stunning!
